Origin & Route

Origin of the Ride

The inaugural Ride Against Domestic Violence in 2016 was the brainchild of two Members of Western Australia’s Parliament, the Hon Tony Buti MLA (Labor) and the Hon Tony Simpson MLA (Liberal). The two Tonys shared a determination to use their influence to create an event that raised funds for family and domestic violence refuges facing high and rising demand for their services and to raise community awareness of the scourge of family and domestic violence.

Despite the number of riders increasing from year-to-year, the organisers have always sought to draw riders from a wide cross-section of WA society who nevertheless are as one about the seriousness of the FDV problem and the importance of supporting community organisations helping women and children experiencing or at risk of experiencing FDV. The peloton for the 2021 Ride will be comprised of a team of Members of Parliament, company/industry teams, a community team, union teams and professions teams.
